Bubble tea, tea houses, Asian bakeries and dessert shops in this group are usually walk-in, counter-order businesses with a menu board overhead listing sweetness and ice levels you can adjust when ordering. Standard bubble tea customization includes sugar level (0-100%), ice level, and a choice of toppings like boba pearls, pudding or jelly, usually at a small extra charge. Asian bakeries sell items individually with tongs and a tray, cafeteria-style, rather than pre-boxed, and pastries are typically less sweet than Western bakery items. Lines build up quickly after school and in the evening, especially near colleges. Most of these businesses accept cards and mobile pay and skew younger in clientele and atmosphere.

Durham is in North Carolina, in the Southeast, where summers are long, hot and humid, winters are mild, and afternoon thunderstorms and the hurricane season from June to November can change plans at short notice. Getting around Durham is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. My partner and I had a private tea ceremony and it was such a special and delightful experience. Mayumi and Chef Yamazawa are warm and wonderful hosts, I left the experience feeling very present and at peace. I was immersed in every moment, every detail of the ceremony was meaningful and meticulous. I could tell they put in great intention and care to every aspect (from the meal courses, the handmade pottery by the Chef, the tea selected, the flowers, and the overall space. Thank you so much Mayumi and Chef Yamazawa, it was an honor to join you. I highly recommend this to experience to everybody :)

The private tea ceremony was such a special and intimate experience. This was a gift I intended for my husband, but we both thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The meal and the tea were so lovely (delicious, unique, and well balanced flavors!), and the experience was one we won’t soon forget. We left feeling deeply peaceful and satisfied. Our hosts were so lovely, welcoming, and kind, and we really enjoyed learning the history and meaning of the tea ceremony with them.

Hard to give this anything other than 5 stars, intimate setting, chef is this older japanese gentleman and server is his wife. Waitlist is months long and the price is not cheap. Best thing to do is let go and allow the chef take you on an adventure. From his handmade plates and silverware, to the garnishes from his home garden, and presentation of the food. Food itself was enjoyable but the combined experience heightened the sensation. Lucky to have this in NC, much less our small town of Durham.

Very high ratings for communication, customer service, and quality. From the second you enter the restaurant you feel as though you are halfway around the world. You get lost in the food/decor. Every dish served was visually appealing, fresh, and tasty. This is a once in a lifetime experience and would recommend it. It is more of an experience than anything else. Be prepared for a long wait to get a reservation and for smaller portions than most are accustomed to. The price is also high, but it's not a place you will eat at often and the experience is worth it.

Had a fantastic birthday dinner here with my wife. I felt like I was back in Tokyo. Food and sake were top notch and service was perfect. I even received a gift bottle when I left. I wish I would say I will be back but it is hard to get a seat there. Highly recommend.
